Direct Your Future
The era of the “Founder-as-Creator” has ceased. Welcome to the era of the “Founder-as-Director.”
Building Cyranosales over the last year forced me to confront a brutal reality about the intersection of AI, psychology, and business: the bottleneck is no longer the technology. The bottleneck can be the human.
When intelligence becomes a cheap commodity, the rules of the game invert completely. Enjoy some tried-and-true truths from a founder-as-director
AI gives you infinite leverage on generation, but you still hold the liability for the judgment.
Velocity > Genius We are conditioned to hunt for the “smartest” answer. But in a live workflow, over-engineered intelligence is a trap. If your AI takes 5 seconds to think, it kills your momentum. An older, cheaper model that answers instantly is infinitely more valuable than a genius model that makes you wait. The market rewards the highest velocity, not the highest IQ.
Judgment is the Only Premium AI has driven the cost of words and code to zero. I no longer write complex Regex to parse data; I ask the machine to do it. But this infinite leverage on generation comes with zero leverage on judgment. If you skip the 30-second manual review before hitting send, you aren’t scaling your business. You are just scaling your mistakes at lightspeed.
You Own the Liability The biggest lie in tech is that AI makes the final call. Whether you are prompting an LLM or paying a $500/hr CPA, they are fundamentally doing the same thing: generating a probabilistic draft. They provide the options. You provide the judgment. You can outsource the computation, but you can never outsource the liability.
Identity is Infrastructure To survive the pressure of being the Director, you have to engineer your own psychology. People mock the “Stealth Startup Founder” bio, entirely missing the point. That label isn’t for investors; it’s psychological scaffolding to keep the founder from quitting during the terrifying zero-to-one phase. Delusion, applied correctly, is a necessary tool for momentum. Signal your brain what makes you happy, and the execution will follow.
The human provides the Spark. The machine provides the Polish.
Stop trying to compete with the AI on output. Start competing on taste, speed, and the absolute willingness to hold the final liability.
